funny as hell tire size information
ok I was at a junkyard the other day and this young mechanically challenged chick ( a customer ) comes out from the back and asks the guy at the counter what the difference in a 65 and a 60 is? she states that there are 2 tires in the back that are the same except one is a 60 and one is a 65 ( as in 195-60-16 ). the guy at the counter says "oh not much, you'll be fine with one 60 and one 65".
now I am holding in my astonishment at this point: 1. because this guy is trying to make a buck. 2. if your at a junkyard and are not a diy'er then your in the wrong place. and 3. I hadn't gotten a price for my item and I didn't want to pay for the difference in price on the lost sale he would have had with her. I can only imagine how fast those tires are gonna wear out. whats your input on running different overall diameter tires. |
Amazing. What place was this? I really would like to avoid them from now on.

yeah...um..if they were buying the tire at a junk yard then its prob just a temp fix or they are too cheap.....i am running 205 55's and i have one 205 50....its just temp untill i go out and spend some money on some azenas

your ok(as a temp fix) with different size tires but, if there is a LSD involved it could cause much problems. I wouldn't advise using different size L&R tires but, different size front&rears are fine.

yeah front to rear is one thing ( unless maybe on an awd vehicle) but left to right. and I would probably guess that her other 2 tires would match one of the 2 "new" ones so she will have one odd tire out of 4.
this was brandon auto salvage on sr 60 just east of the brandon valrico border. and if this was a temp fix to hold over for a performance tire that is on order or what not then I think she would have been more knowledgeable about tires and not asked what the difference was. I just thought it was one of those "what the fuck did he just say" moments that makes you realize how grateful you should be to know about cars. |
