d series turbo ?'s....
I am bout to turbo my d series and I wanted to know if anyone knows of any porblems I am y run into so that I can prepare for htem pre install. Also if anyone knows of a good place to get a car dynop tuned PLEASE PM ME !!! thanks Justin
for tunig contact 60-1ek, or 99b16si, depending on which route of mangement you go.
as far as D series problems, there are only a known few.
-overheating
-headlifting
-slow......J/K
that should be it, make sure you either buy headstuds, and rod bolts, and that the head and deck are completely level, i have no idea if the motor is assembled or disassembled. but depending on power goal, yo may not run into any of these. i know most of this occurs at about the 300hp level

I was running a boosted setup for almost two years with out any real problems. Until I blew the ringlands off the pistons, that was fun.
if you would like any advice from me. I would tell you to put pistons and rods in the bottom end before you boost it. Keep the compression stock. 9.2-9.6:1 is great c/r for a normal boosted engine.
Keep the boost low, around 7psi. Until you upgrade the injectors, and get some tuning.
Go with uberdata, or something light an inexpensive. Don't go for broke trying to squeeze as much hp as you can from it. Keep it simple. Dont use check valves or any garbage like that.
A good turbo to use is a t3/t4 .48 a/r on the exhaust. A 50 trim, or 57 trim works VERY well on D series Hondas. They will make a LOT of power on lower boost levels.
expect over 200whp very quickly with low amounts of boost. So be prepared.

cronic wasnt running anything crazy or expensive, like he said it was 2 years ago if not maybe a little more. but he did have some decent tuning for a while.
i saw him hang with a cobra and he had like almost no compression in one cylinder!!

My car held it's own back in the day. I was using a log manifold from some guy in Canada. Internal wastegate, t3 off of a SAAB. Basic junkyard setup.
I upgraded the head and pistons, but left the rods stock... I learned my lesson from that one.
The car is still down, and eventually I'll bring it back up. Maybe one day the SOHC will be back around to club some baby seals again.
Edit: My car wasn't anything super fast. It was ONE of the few SOHC turbos around back then. A lot of people around here, and random other places respected the car when it was in it's prime. But like everything, it came to an end.
I estimated it was making around 220whp. best run at the track was 15.8@98mph (IIRC) on 8psi. I never got it to the track after the headwork and hondata. on 16psi It was probably a mid 13 second car. From a roll anyway. It definatly made a statement that even single cams can make an impression on the v8 guys.
