Engine Cleaning (hot tank)
I'm interested in getting my block that i'm building to look pretty, how clean does hot tanking actually get the block and if anyone knows a good place and decent prices please let me know I already degreased and cleaned the hell out of it but it's just not looking shiny and clean enough for me.
http://jupiter.walagata.com/w/sxecrow/engine-b16a.jpg i want it to be like....brand new looking, is that possible? |
its not going to get much cleaner that u have it now. if you really want it to look nice and shiney, paint it
|
clean and hand polish the outside daily
|
And once its in it doesnt stay clean long
|
I had my old ls/vtec block "sonic cleaned" it came out almost new :-)
|
Well maybe put some metal polish cleaner on it, then clear coat, then whenever it gets dirty, just squirt some soapy water on it and sprayer down.
|
if it's that big of a deal, once you get it in, have it steam cleaned once in a while. must be for a show car...
|
lay off him dude he just wants to put a clean set up in his car and i dont blame him for wanting a clean engine bay..... :finger:

hey john, from where yo have it now, go tot an auto parts store and ask for "casters grey" it is a textured paint that gives a look of a factory aluminum or iron block but in a grey, not that ricey silver but a new looking grey color.
i did this to my gsr block and it looed brand new. just take off all the accesory parts, i primed mine just to be on the safe side, painted the block, then painted all the accesories gloss black. looked perfect. just make sureit is free of grime and that its dry. sounds stupid but i used a wire tooth brush thingy to get all the crap off mine, theres nothing wrong with wanting your shit to look nice |
clean it with simple green, pressure wash it, then some degreaser and a wire brush to get the rest... then finish it all of with a few cans of carb cleaner
Or just spray'er down with aircraft remover, then pressure wash |
lol its not for show but im crazy about having a clean car :P ...but i figured that since it was out and i was building it up, i might as well make it look sexy, the paint sound like a good idea i just want it to look like its new.

Or just spray'er down with aircraft remover, then pressure wash that is what i did to get it to where it is at now :P but i used brake cleaner rather than carb cleaner.... same thing though |

btw :dbird: right back at ya :gay: |
Lol no need to bash, you may find that sarcasm is rather difficult to detect via the internet, and +1 for matt sticking up for me...and everyone else :D
EDIT: as for info on the future set up i plan to use eagle rods and cp pistons, unless i come across on a deal for pistons, then i will use some sparks racing rods and whatever good deal i find on pistons (then throw that block in till i blow it up and build up my other block that i'll have left over with expensive stuff, it's 800 for eagle and cp and if i get a deal its 225 for the spark's rods and 250ish for good deal on pistons. i saw a set of srp's selling on ht but chris looks like he is after them and they don't have pins so i don't see it as a good deal. anyway the current planned set up is a bult bottom end with those parts, ....and everything else i have, just about... set up will include precision sc50 .48/.60 stage 3 wheel 360 degree bearings, a tnt/drag looking manifold (first item i bought, will prob switch to blox later on) a deltagate (taking the chance, will switch to tial if it creeps) johnnyrace car fmic, rc 440 injectors (thanks to mike) 255 holly fuel pump (thanks to john) um... uberdata soon to be thanks to kj (as soon as i stop being lazy)and dave and of course blake....um.. act extreme pressure plate, lightly reworked head, full ic pipe kit from spoolin performance...and kteller exhaust 3" with magniflow muffler (mild not stainless) my goals are still 250 whp which im positive i'll make with ease....then i want to learn to tune, so i plan on buying a eprom burner and paying very close attention to dave :D...oh yeah s80 lsd tranny is on the boat on its way here and that should about cover it...im sure i missed a few things...anyway once i learn to tune i'll turn up the boost a little bit and make around 280ish and keep it nice and safe...until the bug hits me and i blow it. |
