Default can i buy one or fab one

i have a 90 civic hb with bucket racing seats and i just bought 4 point harnesses. my question is where can i mount the harness to?? i know sparco makes a bar for it but its 400 bucks and they dont even make it for my car. i think i could make one cause the sparco doesnt look hard to make. how does everyone else have them?? any help would be great

You want the upper mount points of the harness to be parallel to the horizontal axis of the car. Whatever setup you fab, do not drop the upper straps too far below shoulder height as it will result in spine compression should an impact occur.

As for setups, it's not too difficult if you have the tools and material. A setup that I like a lot is what the guys at www.speedwaremotorsports.com have come up with. The bar mounts behind the seat to the seatbelt feeds on each side. It then has two braces coming from the bar that mount to the floor of the car. It's a pretty solid design and one you should aim at emulating if you go through with fabbing it yourself.

One thing to note though...harnesses are not exactly safe without a cage. It's one thing to use them as a method to stop you from sliding around in your seat but without a proper cage, don't think that you're suddenly safer. Using a harness instead of a normal seat belt, should a rollover occur, the harness will not allow your body to slide down off the seat thereby increasing the potential for head injury. Just something to think about.

+1 on the comments above. You put yourself in a GREAT AMOUNT of DANGER running a harness without roll-over protection.

i am putting a cage in but just not at the moment. i dont have enough cash. i do on the other hand want to drive the car so i need seat belts.( when i bought my car the guy cut the ones in there out). thanks for the replys.. the on in the link is just like the sparco one. i am going to be fabbing it myself.

do you know if the bars have to be one piece and bent like the one above, or can i weld them so they are straight... i dont have anything that would bend a bar of that size.???
