Default high water temp reading

anyone out there have an afermarket water temp guage, mine isd nearly reading 250 and do not think that is right the factory guage is reading normal, a while back i took out my therostat and checked it and it was fine open and closed as it should. i just flushed my radiator and everthing and added some coolant and water and its still reading the same the fan cuts in and out as it should. anyone got some ideas on what i should do to correct this.

are you using the stock sensor? If you are using an aftermarket one, is it located in the head? What brand?
