Default Leaking EGR gasket=erratic idle??

I just got my car all back together a 1990 Integra GS and its idle is all over the place. Sometimes it settles down for awhile but then it drops really low. I tried adjusting the throttle cable and idle screw. When we put my intake manifold back on the egr gasket looked a little jacked/cracked. If thats sucking air could that cause it? It seems like I can smell more exhaust fumes than normal if im idling. Thanks for all of your help.

well, you own a honda, so it will smell like that. 2nd i would check your idle air control valve on the back of your intake mani, shoot it with some brake parts cleaner, should do the trick. also, any codes? erratic idle could be caused by a lot of things....codes will help you narrow it down.....

EGR leaks cause nasty problems. Get carb and choke cleaner and spray it in the area of the egr gasket and if it is leaking and sucks it into the intake manifold the car will want to die out. You then have found the problem.

some do. It is weird maybe only one model out of three, GS, RS, LS. Or maybe just the 90's though I doubt it. I've only seen a couple.

What part of the IACV do I spray with the cleaner? The entire unit or just part of it, or where the sensor plugs in? thanks again!

spray the egr and see if it gets sucked up by a vacuum leak. You can also hook up a vacuum gauge and see what is happening.
