Default More zip

My dad has a '99 Honda Accord LX (H23A1) and would like to get a little more zip out of it. He's thinking about puting a chip in it to get that little extra out. From what I've read, these are only good for after the basic bolt ons. What would the best mod or mod combination to get a little more go out of his car.

Seeing as he'd be willing to pay about $350 for a chip, I'd like to keep all recomendations under $500. I think I could convince him that the extra $150 will be well invested.

I've been thinking about a intake / header combination to make an extra 20-25 hp for him. That would probably suffice for what he'd want. It's not like he's building a race car, but just making his pimp-mo-biel quicker.

Thanks guys.

Intake and header WILL NOT give you/him 15-20 HP, that would be about 10 if he's lucky, you would pretty much lose the benefits of the header with a stock exhaust. I would say a CAI, header and a custom exhaust.

Point taken, but he won't get that with 500 bucks. CAI would run about 140-180, Headers about 250-350, and a custom exhaust... hell if I know. Custom exhaust is the only way he'd go. He's not one for the loud weed whacker sound

Sorry, this isn't a Mustang or Camaro. Intake, header, exhaust, and cam gears won't even get you that. You'd be lucky to get half what you're looking for.

He's not gonna get anything worthwhile for $500. Start him off with an intake and header, and get him a cat and catback later on down the line. Good Luck.

You can pull off what i suggested for under 500, you just have to find a used CAI and header. Oh, and do you know what the difference between custom and mass produced exhausts are?

Honestly, I don't know the different. Would you enlighten me on that one, Vito? If I had to guess I'd say it'd have to do with the sound, but I'm not sure. That or the price...?

All "custom" means is that you goto an sxhaust shop and have them make it, it's not dyno tested and not really as good as the name branders, but it will get it done.
