idle help
ok when im sitting at idle, it idles erratically. the car jumps rpms up and down and up and down. im throwing codes 07 and 17..... i tried replacing the tps and it still does the same thing.
has anyone else had this problem? or does anyone have any suggestions for me that i should try?
any info would be appreciated, thanks.

what motor... my friend has a 94 hatch and has a b18c1 and it was doing this forever.... so we took off the fast idle control valve and bought a connector for the coolant line to the iacv.... got a metal plate and blocked off the bottom of the throttle body where the fast idle control valve was... fixed the problem.... he had got cams while it was doin this erradic idle and never actually heard them idle until then.......it was music to the ears

1st rule of trouble shooting.
Resolve you're codes before trying to fix anything.
1 code can make you're ecu throw other codes which are not actually there.
Concerning you're tps, you need a voltmeter & a helms or haynes manual
Or you can just check you're tps sensor for 5v at wot on the middle wire of the plug.
I do not remember what the manual says to do to test a tps. But I believe that is the proper way to test it.
You're speed sensor might be bad... Check you're wiring & again get a manual & read how to trouble shoot it using a voltmeter.
Voltmeters are handy tools

probe the middle red wire. Turn the car to ignition on but dont start the car. At closed throttle the reading should be around .5v. At wide open it should be about 4.5v. Sometimes the VSS sensors go bad if coolant gets down on them too much. Try drying it out real well if you spilled coolant on it. Try replacing it. You can source them off any b or d-series transmissions.
Also make sure you don't have the map and TPS plugs switched around.
