Default Overheating

I just got my Del Sol about a week ago, and just yesterday, it started over heating. The temp gage went all the way up, past "H". I am assuming this is the thermostat, and was just wondering on how much this would cost, and if it is something easy to do, or should I pay the money, and have a shop do it? Also, anything else that could be wrong?!! The radiator is ok....and the fans work. Thanks guys

How is your coolant level? If it's low, I'd check the entire system over for leaks before I did anything else (hose condition, leakage around water pump, etc). If it checks out fine, might want to swap out radiator caps as they tend to fail over time.
As for the thermostat, it's a 10minute job and one that just about anyone here with a socket-wrench could do. I'd pull the thermostat and test it out first before commiting myself to a replacement. If it turns out fine, I'd start eyeing the water pump for replacement.

It's intuitive.
Drain a little bit of the coolant.
Remove the coolant hose from the thermostat housing.
Remove the ground wire.
Remove the two bolts and pull off housing.
Remove the thermostat, taking note of pin orientation.
Replace with new thermostat, correctly positioning pin.
Put it back together and top off coolant.

If you have no clue what I'm talking about, grab a helms/haynes manual or have a friend do it for you.

Yeah, just look in the manual. It is very easy and inexpensive to do yourself.

Well instead of just saying that, why not explain HOW it was fixed so anyone who digs up this thread will know.
