Don Panoz-led electric performance vehicle company Green4U has unveiled plans for a fully-electric sportscar concept with the aim of delivering the performance and range required to compete against internal combustion and hybrid rivals at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The car, dubbed the Green4U Panoz Racing GT-EV, is currently under development at Panoz's design and engineering hub in Braselton, Georgia. Green4U co-founder and CEO Don Panoz announced the plans on Thursday at Le Mans, and said that the car aims to follow in the mold of previous Panoz innovations.
"We're debuting it here at Le Mans because of this iconic race's history where the brightest and most ambitious and tenacious competitors always push the motorsports and automotive boundaries," he said.
"We pushed the boundaries when we brought Sparky [the 1998 Panoz Q9 GTR-1 Hybrid] and the DeltaWing to Le Mans, and we'll do the same with the all-electric GT-EV. Our goal is to run our car in a race, perhaps even applying for a future Garage 56 slot, and apply what we learn to our Green4U EV vehicle designs."

The program will be led by Brian Willis, Vice President of Engineering & Design. Initial performance targets include 400-450kW total power with a top speed of between 175-180mph. The car will run on removable battery packs, allowing for batteries to be swapped out during pitstops, with a targeted range of between 90 and 110 miles under race conditions. The front and rear wheels will be powered by seperate electrical motors, with regenerative braking technology on all four wheels.

Other features will include active aerodynamics to reduce drag on straightaways and increase range and performance, while the most visually striking element is the offset closed cockpit.
"Our team is focused on achieving the speed and range of current road racing sports cars," said Willis. "Key is the ability to go as far as petrol and hybrid race cars on the power contained in a single battery pack, then exchange the battery in about the time that it takes them to refill their tanks."
There are also plans for a street-legal sports car based on the GT-EV. Conceptualized by renowned car designer Peter Stevens, who has contributed to the design of many vehicles such as the Panoz Esperante GTR-1, the design (BELOW) features a unique two-passenger, jet fighter-style passenger compartment where the passenger sits behind the driver.

Green4U was founded late last year, and subsequently acquired the DeltaWing Technology Group, Panoz LLC and Team Panoz Racing.
