Default Quick, easy question about a Chevy Prizm

Hey guys, I had a quick question and I was hoping someone could help me out. My girlfriends friend drives a 98 chevy prizm, her check engine light came on recently. I know with Hondas and Acuras theres a small plug near the ECU that allows the owner to retieve the check engine light codes without an OBD2 scanner, is there a similar process for the prizm?

I have been googling for about 20 minutes with no luck.

All 96+ GM vehicles are OBDII Compliant. You need a scanner and use the OBDII port under the dash. Parts stores do this for free.

Yes I know that, but even OBDII compliant Hondas and Acuras have the no scanner feature. You put a paper clip, wire, bobby pin, etc into the plug and complete the circuit. Then when the key is turned to the on position the CEL flashes the code numbers. I dont have an OBDII scanner on me, and I would like to retrieve the codes using an alternate method if its at all possible.
