Removal of oil pan on 98 Camaro V6?

What am i going to have to do to remove the oil pan on a 1998 Camaro V6 so i can get to the oil pump? When the car is at idel the oil light comes on but if you give it a little gas and raise the rpm's the light shuts off.

thanks you for any info possible, Adam

The oil pump drive is part of the timing cover. You don't have to remove the oil pan.

Is it easy to get to? Does the timing chain also have to be removed? I havn't looked at the car yet so i don't know what is all in front of it! thanks, adam

You just have to remove the timing cover. The oil pump is in the timing cover. Five Torx bits hold the oil pump cover on.

Thank you so much for the info. I thought it was going to be a bigger headache then i thought!

Is it a common problem with Chevy's and the oil pump going bad in this motor?

The oil pump drive is basically a set of gears driven by the crank in the timing cover. They don't fail often.
