Default vibration in a 94 Z28

I just bought a 94 Z28 and it has a vibration and a rumble noise when shifting (automatic) from first to second gear at low speeds. Souns like it's coming from the rear. Also if i take it to red line it wont shift into the next gear unless i back out of the throttle.

I had heard the rear end and transmission problems are common it these. I would like some advise?????

could be tranny takin a dump, could be low transmission fluid, could be a vacuum leak.

by rumble noise do you mean like it feels like the rear end is kicking?

well quick and cheap things 1st. check your tranny fluid level. remove the dust shield from the tranny and make sure your converter has all its bolts in place, aswell as the rear end. this may be causing the vibration you mentioned. as for the noise, its one of those things someone would have to ride along with you to help diagnose. but do the fluid 1st, then check back in with us and let us know if anything has changed.

also could be a bad tranny mount or torque arm mount

do the rest of the gears up shift hard/ or down shift hard, or is it only in the 1st-2nd upshift?

+1 trans and rear problems are common in anything that has had it's guts beat out of it for the past 13 years...

i check the tranny fluid and rear end fluid. both are good. no just first to second makes the noise and vibration.
there was one time i was going up a hill, the car downshifted and it sounded like the rear end fell out. then the abs inop light came on. i shut off the car and restarted it and light has not come back on.

sounds as though you may have a planetary gear set in the trans taking a dump. That description sounds very familiar to the problem i had in my 700 r 4 a few years back..

If you drop the trans pan and see any thick metal particles in there, it will be a dead give away.

pull the cover off the rear... that will tell all, look for any metal fragments, excessive grindings..
