im getting an ECU is this a good idea for my 2.2?

Do you mean that your are getting your current ECU tuned? You already have 1. A tune is always a good thing if done right.

the 2.2 is such an econo motor I honestly wouldn't spend more than $50 on a "tune or performance ECU" you'd would probably get SOME gains but hardly any worth spending alot of money on

what are you getting they do not have any kind of chip made for 3rd gen jbodies yet. HP tuners is suppose to drop one soon but depending on what you have done to your car it is most likely a waste of money

There isn't any replacement ECUs for our cars, thanks to OBDII. You can get it reflashed, but untless you are boosting I would save the money.
