ported MAF questions..
yes ... dont do it... your an asshole your gona mess it up.. blah blah..
to the point... my car is running WAY rich and I was wondering if porting a MAF would make it run a bit more lean? I have heard it does... any input?

yes it makes it run leaner. all it does is trick the PCM into thinking there is less air coming in thus it puts more timing than it would normally. yes it makes a few rwhp IF done correctly. i would buy a set of MAF ends before i even thought about touching the MAF housing siince the MAF sensor is ULTRA sensitive. if you touch the little sensors there is a a good chance of you destroying it. they are damn expensive. i have seen the plastic aftermarket ends go for 30 dollars or cheaper used. if you are automatic car DO NOT FUCKING DO IT!! on auto cars it spikes the line pressure because the line pressure is related to MAF volatage. tranny will be shot fast.
also, why do you think your car is running WAY rich?

alright.. I half way got gators approval
my cars popping like a bitch... especially on initial start-up and my first like 10 miles...
smells like gas at stop lights etc... I know this could be the fact that I deleted the cats... but the car just plainly feels/smells/sounds rich.
everytime I let off the gas all you hear is "pop, pop, crackle, pop" the car just sounds ridiculously rich.
I'd take the MAF apart and port it... and be extra careful of the Sensor itself... unless theres some MAF ends I can buy locally... I dont have the time/patience to ship another part.
what GATOR said is exactly what I heard and I figured I'd come hear and ask as well.

the POPING isnt you being rich. its the lack of cats and the AIR injection (emissions related). its normal for any car that has no cats but still has AIR being injected into the exhaust.
smelling like gas is because there are more emissions being expelled out since you dont have cats. its what cats do.
are you an automatic?
i run a stock MAF. i had a set of ported ends. didnt like them at all then i noticed the line pressure issues. this was back in 2001. my car seems to run just fine with the stock stuff on it.

git rid of the air pump.it might actually be a worth while free mod for you lol. not for power but for weight. also to a lessor extent a loud exhaust will not cover up that noise.

Gator - do you have an air pump? if you do is there any tips you could share to getting rid of it?
I would like to delete the EGR as a whole ..
the MAF porting is gona end up being a mod I'm gona perform .. but it wont probably be for a while.. gona read up on everything and get all the correct tools . while I'm doing this I'm gona end up doing a TB as well..
about 10 good dremel bits, what grit sandpaper do you suggest?
gona get some expoxy .

taking the Air pump is all electrical and requires only hand tools. getting rid of the EGR you are going to have to plug up the hole in the intake. freeze plug will do it. its ghetto. also you are going to have to seal up on the manifold where the air pump injects air into the exhaust system.
go for it if you are bored. none of this shit will make you gain power. i did it because i put on LT headers with no cats in the Y pipe.
as for the ported MAF, dont know. never did it! read above posts.
