ls1/ls6 tech question

Default ls1/ls6 tech question

How does one go about measuring piston to valve clearence? What kind of tool do you use to measure it? Any links or info on it.

some clay and a mic. Put the clay in the cylinder, assemble the head on the motor with cam and valvatrain for the one cylinder, roll the motor over SLOWLY! and then remove and measure the squished valve print.

you have to make the OEM lifter solid...then set it to 0 lash. If you just bolt everything up and turn it over...you will not get an exact reading because the lifter will collapse a bit since its hydraulic. Or you could use the stock lifter and checker springs.
I have a set of modded EOM LS1 lifters if you need to borrow them.

i usually just throw the cam in, button her up, and floor her till the limitor for a few seconds. then see if it idles ok.
