Kit includes the freeze plug to cover the hole on the backside where the d/s went. Basically you have too....
remove the pump from the car
remove the front cover
press/hammer out the guts of the rest
The electric water pump has 4 ears on it, you have to take a grinder out clearance out the housing for the ears
knock in the freezeplug
bolt down the pump to the housing
reinstall onto motor.
car still runs. i caught it very fast there wasnt much water at all coming from it. so the opti should be ok. im gonna fix it tomorrow which sucks because i need my car tomorrow for school, and go figure i have a fucking job interview finally, and no car. but thats ok now...my uncle let me borrow his caddy SLS

Just replaced a water pump on teh v6 Bird today, and all I can say is....
...Goddamn, I thought FORD techs were stupid, but GM takes it to another level.
I had to remove the fucking power steering pulley (A bitch!) and its bracket, as well as unbolt the coil pack which sits on top of said bracket, and then fight with an assload of AC piping for space as I took the 13134985795701 bolts out. All this jsut to replace a goddamned water pump...sigh.

well i replaced mine today. what a fucking pain in the ass. remove coil, air pump, bracket, the fans...took about 6 hours with two people, one which is an aircraft mechanic from american airlines no less lol.
opti is fine(thank god) car runs great.
but....
it does run a lil over 200 at an idle. driving its 180 or just below. there is some coolant on the air intake right at the throttle body, but on the plastic area...no coolant is leaking out of the car from below tho. i let it sit and idle for a while after driving some...and it went up to 200, then about 230 or so, then back to 200 and a lil below that and stayed there. i filled up the return tank some with some water, and after the engine was shut down...about 3 mins later i went back out, saw water on the ground and it smelled like water....which came from the overflow tank so i figured it was just filled up too much. i am worried tho about the coolant on the air intake housing....anyone have any ideas? thermostat is 2 weeks old.
air pockets?, bad hose right there on the top?
