Default My first LT1

Well I just got a 94 formula auto with 110k on it, bone stock except for a K&N and the best part...it was $3000. I was really looking for a 6 speed but for $3k i couldn't pass it up. The car was pretty well taken care of, minor cosmetic stuff needs to be fixed, the dash is cracked (no kidding), rear bumper cover has a crack, and the drivers power door lock is broken but other than that its a pretty good car. I've had an 87 GTA before and a 94 firebird with the tiny 3.4 in it. I'm glad to have an lt1 now, even though it has the ugliest wheels ever made, the 93-94 formula/TA swirl rims But I'm going to be either getting a set of Z06 wheels or the skinny 5 star c5 wheels. But I just wanted to inroduce myself to the GM group. Look foward to talking to you guys

Has the distributor been changed yet?

I think its the original opti spark, I'm sure my friend has one laying around somewhere if it goes bad, either that or i used to work at pontiac and still have some connections

good luck.

the auto's and the opti give those cars a bad name. the rest is nice. if your ok with that, then you will have fun modding it.

if not, then you maybe in for a long time of hating gm. like some people i have known....lol

Congrats on the purchase, but why ditch that nice looking Talon in your sig.? How quick was it?

Anyways, if your LT1 was mechanically sound and taken care of, then you shouldn't have any serious problems running it hard at it's current mileage. Stick with bolt-ons at that mileage, as well as low boost or a mild shot if a poweradder is on your mind. Personally, I wouldn't go digging into your motor with a heads/cam swap and such, but that's just me. My '97 LT1 has mechanically been a rock since I bought it with only normal wear and tear items needing replacement; had a fuel pump fail cause I ran it out of gas and the water pump was replaced as well, but otherwise it's all good. As far as I know, my Opti is original when I bought it with 63K, now it just turned 120K miles.

But boy do I hate the quality of the plastic and the minor electrical gremlins I've had, including a cracked dash like you, broken driver's side door lock switch, driver's side door switch panel clip popped off, going on my second driver's side window motor, cheap pleather that's already torn on the driver's seat, a couple of droopy areas on the headliner, replaced my rear taillight harness because it was all corroded, had one GM recall performed for the air pump, and my car is only 7 years old. Have an '81 T/A and an '85 Z28 with none of these problems. I hope a future 5th gen is better quality-wise. *rant-off*

Anyhow, congrats on the purchase. You're coming from a DSM anyways, so you're already used to having to repair your car.

LOL, Yea hi forgot...my headliner is hanging down also, but theres a guy around my area that does that, like $60 and it'll look brand new. ah anyway thanks guys for all the input, i look foward to hearing more so keep it coming. I basically know what to excpect from the car, i know 3 other people that have had 4th gen f bodies, and i used to work at castriota chevy, and autoway pontiac north.

Long story with thte talon, in one week......bent two rims & messed up a tire due to a pot hole, pulled the tranny to change the pressure plats to find out that the bell housing is broken, and a piesc of the block came off with the bell housing, But yeah it was pretty quick, Over 300hp for sure, bever had it on a dyno but I'm pretty positive. It could hold its own if it was ever running long enough. SO I basically parted it out so I could get an LT1 car, plus i missed torque, yeah the car pulled like a bastard when it hit 21 psi but before that no torque, and I also missed the rwd.

+1
Heres something you might want to consider once your opti starts acting up or leaves you stranded.
