Default Transmission mount Question????

I originally planned to change the transmission mount in my car to a poly one that I bought from BMR. I had it staged at the shop to put it in and when I came back to get it and put it in someone had stolen it. It was in Dragin's shop and was Prothane which is fairly rare for the ones used since most people use energy suspension. Well now that I know someone I know has it on their car and never had enough gumption to say hey I really needed it at the time I will replace It I totally forgot about it.

I bought a new one and hopefully will have it soon as it is in the mail. My question here is of the symptons of a mount that has broken. I know that now if I am in a hard take off and let off of the clutch it feels like the whole transmission moves and is dropping down in some way. Is this what happens to the stock ones when they go bad, do they just rip down the middle? I was just curious about how long this could have been this way and gone un-noticed. I have been able to feel the stick move also as if the transmission is jumping around. If anyone has had this experience please let me know if this part was the problem.

In the worst case your Tq arm will "clunk" loudly. And yes...it will just be torn down the middle of the little hump. If its just excessive movement...yours is probably just worn.

Al, I appreciate the answer. I firgured it was one of two things worn or torn, remember by torque arm has not been connected to the tranny for over a year so while it got used hard I wonder if it has been damaged for a long time. I had another question for you if you have the answer, what is the piston compression height for a 3.7 stroke and 6.125 rods for an ls1? I was seriously considering offset grinding the crank and am trying to get piston specs for the next purchase. Still not sure what the bore will be, but have it arranged with the shop to sonic test first then check with available piston sizes that fit my application.

I dont know the engine math offhand. However those are my specs as well. I will look at my build sheet and see if compression height was given. If all else fails the machine shop that is doing the offset grinding should be able to give the compression hieght...or call Diamond with all the specs and they can tell you.

Thanks, and just for knowledge. Godwin and Singer have the newest bore machine that can mimic any bore there is. Just some info I learned while trying to strike a deal. I hope to have the new motor up and running by the end of the year. I appreciate the help my friend and will certainly give you a call for assistance I am sure. It looks like it is going to be a complete motor swap, not just heads and cam now. I think it is probably better that way.

Thats definately a better way. You will either be able to redo the original at your leisure over the next year or so...or sell complete assy to recoup much of the cost. Awesome...good luck.

You are spot on, I already have a buyer at the machine shop and I plan to get the pistons, rings, bearings and possibly main studs in exchange for my long block. I have an extra oil pump from an 01 that I am going to port the casting on.
