Default Acknowledging some past accomplishments

Originally from SuburbanNoize on 10-16-2011:
Congratulations to Scnat for taking the win in Forced Induction Pro yesterday at IFO Gainesville. Nice runs, close race in the finals against that yellow rotary that was lifting wheel every run. Both cars came out hard, the rotary led the race till about 3/4s of the track and Scnat pulled him at the very end to take the win. Great race to watch.

SCNAT,
I love a success story!
Psychologically it's hard to come from behind.
When some people fall behind, they think they won't win, and ease off.
Add my congrats also.-Bob

Congratulations to Scholarship Winner Mateusz Malinowski & Simon Restrepo -
For those of you who don't know, The USF Society of Automotive Engineers competes in Formula SAE and Formula Baja against other schools. They engineer, design and build cars from scratch using precise measurements.

Q Motorsports offers scholarships to people involved in motorsports.
It was my pleasure to have known TR member Blue2KSS during the time he was President of USF-SAE from 2006 to 2009. He now works as a Mechanical Engineer for the Naval Surface Warfare Center.

The USF Society of Engineers race team plans to compete in 2012 at Detroit Michigan, Canada and hopefully Lincoln Nebraska. For more information go to www.usfracing.com (http://www.usfracing.com/)

I hope Tampa Racing members will join me in congratulating Mateusz Malinowski on earning this prestigeous scholarship.
His application reads in part:

I am Mateusz Malinowski and I am currently a Mechanical Engineering student at the University of South Florida with an interest in motorsports engineering. I am devoted to my education and determined to achieve my goal as a designer of race cars. These qualities set me apart from the rest of the crowd applying for the Q Motorsports Scholarship. I am currently Vice President of the local chapter of the Society of Automotive Engineers at USF and also responsible for the design of the brake system for the 2012 Formula SAE race car built annually by the SAE chapter at USF. After graduation, I plan to attend graduate school and work on a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering. My dream is to work as a design engineer for a race car manufacturer in Europe.

Mateusz Malinowski is Vice President of the local chapter of the Society of Automotive Engineers at USF .-Bob

I started at USF in the Fall of 2007 and at the same time I became a member of the USF Racing (Society Of Automotive Engineers student chapter at USF-SAE). I'm graduating with a Bachelors Degree in May 2013. My career goal is to enter the motorsports industry either working for a race team, race engineering consulting firm or motorsports parts supplier. I also plan to get a Master's degree in Engineering Management or a Master's degree in Business Administration. The Q Scholarship is helping me get closer to my goals.

Simon is currently the President of the USF Society of Automotive Engineers.-Bob

Florida’s most-blinged Camaro ZL1 brings out the haters in force

This King ZL1 isn't a muscle-car murder or a sign of America's impending moral collapse any more than the rolling cartoons emerging from George Barris' shop were in the 1960s.

Mon, Nov 19, 2012 2:35 PM EST

http://l1.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/Xc...ingzl1dubs.jpg (http://ca.autos.yahoo.com/newcars/ch...l_overview/)To paraphrase Rene Magritte, this is not a car. Yes, it is a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 convertible (http://ca.autos.yahoo.com/newcars/ch...odel_overview/), and it has an engine which can turn those 30-inch Forgiato gold saucers into forward motion. But the transformation by a Tampa tuning shop into what it calls the King ZL1 has placed the Camaro into the kind of debate heard around avant-garde galleries: Is it a piece of art, or a piece of garbage?Built and shown by 813 Customs, the King ZL1 follows a similar effort on a less-powerful King Camaro (http://ca.autos.yahoo.com/newcars/ch...view/)unveiled earlier this year. Both required a near-complete teardown and reassembly, with bespoke fiberglass dash and door pieces to handle a Radio Shack's worth of speakers and monitors, including the three 23-inch TVs that pop up from the back seat.

MORE RELATED TO THIS STORY

—Photos: Ladies of the Paris Auto Show (http://ca.finance.yahoo.com/photos/l...how-slideshow/)

The outside gets a gold-chrome vinyl wrap, and the 6.2-liter V-8 also gets a brace of upgrades, such as a Whipple supercharger, that can never be used in anger thanks to custom-painted 30-inch Forgiato Maschili wheels that make the Camaro like Lolo Jones running hurdles in spike heels.http://l3.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/hC...kinginside.jpg (http://ca.autos.yahoo.com/newcars/ch...l_overview/)As someone who spends a lot of time reading what people say on the Internet about cars, I can safely say the King ZL1 has stirred a more heated reaction than any other vehicle I've seen in quite a spell. Camaro fans take their cars seriously, and the idea of turning a ZL1 into a slow-rolling rec room enrages many; one commenter called it "the murder of this American muscle car." The Facebook page of 813 Customs was so filled with invective, including some blatant racism, that the company's owner had to respond, noting that he's paid to build cars even when they're not to his personal taste:

Listen its pretty disgusting the things people are saying, everybody has there owns styles, lifted trucks with mud tires, lifted cars with big wheels, lowered cars, racing riding lawnmowers, clothing, hair, etc. To judge a car with such ignorance is disgusting. If you really no what it takes to build a car and your a fan of cars you would respect every custom car for the time, effort and style that, that person came up with even its not your style. Building cars is a hobby for people PEOPLE DONT BUILD CARS TO MAKE ANOTHER PERSON HAPPY they build it to there own style and what they want.
In this, 813 has a point. The majority of car enthusiasts see their passion spring from drivability; not just how much pure speed, but how a machine moves and sounds under power, and the appreciation for the engineering that made it possible. That dominant sensibility has always been at odds with those who care less about moving and more about catching people looking. If a donked Camaro or a BMW stanced so that it's only millimeters off the ground count as crimes against automotive culture, so too must the $2.3 million Bugatti Veyron L'Or Blanc, whose hand-crafted paint swirls and porcelain body and wheel inserts make it too valuable to drive at high speeds.
This King ZL1 isn't a muscle-car murder (http://y.ahoo.it/eKjwq) or a sign of America's impending moral collapse (http://y.ahoo.it/gaS2g) any more than the rolling cartoons emerging from George Barris' shop were in the 1960s. It's something else; an exercise in fashion that pushes the boundaries of taste and revs our passions -- but it won't transform back into a plain Camaro no matter how many gallons of haterade get spewed over it.

Congratulations to Juan Mercado:
Cruiser of the Month at Old Town, Kissimmee.

This is not easy to win. It's not easy to enter! The last time I was up there, my car number was in the 700's. Before we cruised through the town, the cars were numbered in the 900's.

Juan's car is a 1969 VW Beetle. It was restored 18 years ago and has the "Cali Look".
Chrome trim removed, including around the windshield, shaving the handles and emblems, replacing bumpers with nerf bars, lowered stance, polished EMPI rims, and custom interior. Power comes from a 1500CC single port engine. Color is Acadian Blue....close to baby blue.

Juan wins a custom jacket from Out Of This World Embroidery and
Cruiser of The Month VIP parking.

There are three events per week in Kissimmee. Wednesday Street Party, Rock and Roll live bands,
Friday and Saturday Cruises, Dancing, Cash Giveaways, and Special Flags to certain cars.
