I thought I would never see another one. I made a mini-stock out of one
in the early 70's.

The interesting thing to me was that since it had no visible oil filter, some
people thought it never had to be filtered. At the back of the engine there was
a metal cover over the end of the crank pulley held on by 6 10mm bolts.

When the cover/10 mm bolts were removed, and two 12mm bolts screwed into
the cover opposite each other, it popped the cover loose, and you could
scrape the crud that had been gravity-removed from the spinning crank pulley.
Wash the inside with mineral spirits, clean the large O-ring, and you were good
until the next time.

I also had a Bertone-bodied Simca 1000. It was a fastback two seater.
Great handling car, but felt like it should have more power than it did.

Man those were fun cars. To get the engine out faster, we cut verticle slots
over near the tail lights, so two guys could pull the engine straight out the back.

A buddy had a pregnant wife who wanted to autocross his Simca 1000, but
when he asked if they had a ladies class, he was told "No way!"
.........until she beat all the guys, and then it was announced that for the first time
ever, The Tampa Bay Autosports Clubs would be establishing a ladies class.

LOL

I still have a box of some engine parts in my garage.

I had thought that Bertone made a few "custom" bodies since I saw
the Bertone emblem on some kind of Italian car. I thought it might be a little
like Karman Ghia making bodies for VW.

There was some kind of sexy Volvo sports car around the mid 60's... had small tail fins.....Any
idea what it was called?

You're right....P1800. David Ellis Brown from around Orlando won the SCCA Nationals
one year......kicked their butts. Strict rules back then...he was legal weight-wise,
but got DSQ'd for removing the wrong item......

Hi, identifying the brand, make or model of car is not that easy. I guess, we still need a lot of reading that we encounter from the magazines, newspapers, internet and television. However, upon researching, I found out that there is another way of identifying a car. I have read that it is through the car's VIN or Vehicle Identification Number. It gives a lot of information about the car. According to many, this can be applied for the car models 1981 up to the latest. I really do not know the accuracy of this ,but others said that government agencies usually resort to this way of identifying.

That's interesting. I think you might be right about it being a way to identify.
1981 until recently..... Where is the place that we type in the number and
what does it cost to look up a car?
