Default Ford Mustang, Dodge Challenger reportedly headed to NASCAR in 2010f

Whether or not you're a fan of NASCAR, the simple fact remains that none of the cars bear much resemblance to their factory counterparts, and it's not like the "Fusions" and "Chargers" are particularly sexy, either. So in an attempt to boost the series' viewers and souvenir sales, Fox Sports is reporting that Ford and Chrysler plan to introduce Mustang- and Challenger -bodied racers into the Nationwide series next year.

The new designs are due to be submitted for approval on June 26, and the 2010 NASCAR competitors are reportedly going to be visually closer to stock than anything we've seen since the new "aero-matched" cars began rolling out earlier this decade. Unfortunately, the new Mustang and Challenger cars will still be far removed from their stock siblings, and General Motors has apparently decided not to join its domestic rivals and produce a Camaro shell. Both GM and Toyota will reportedly run their current Impala and Camry bodies, respectively.

it would be a huge positive in my eyes to get back to what it's REALLY called. stock car racing. STOCK. CAR. RACING.

the fact that i think dodge is the only one who actually starts with a RWD platform (don't they use the charger?) is sad. camry, monte carlo, fusion, hell, toyota doesn't even make a rwd car, and minus the vette and camaro, chevy doesn't really either.

i think it will be a hella lot better.

That's a good move by NASCAR as well as the manufacturers. I'm looking forward to it.

I hope it's more than just airbrushing a new set of headlights on the current "stock" car of tomorrow body.

SUPER GAY!!! if you really want Nascar to be cool, actually race the cars that these tubular race chassis are painted to look like. Yes the fact that the car models ran in NASCAR are almost all FWD is GAY, but to think that I will give an F just because you paint the car to look like another car instead of the one it currently looks like is insulting.....but maybe it will fool the average NASCAR fan

I loved NASCAR for sooo long but I don't think I will ever become a fan again until they actually race the car that is labeled on the front rather than just an aero-matched car with a shell painted to look like something else.

Speed channel..... bring back British Touring Car Championship and Australian Super Cars!!

that would be nice. i think a 50/50 big track to road course ratio would be full of win!

i actually like the circle jerks more than the road races, i tend to not really watch the road races. i like road racing, just not when nascar does it.

If this is true...then I'd pay to goto Daytona to see it.

Smart move NASCAR.

BTW: Toyota DOES make RWD cars....hello, LEXUS?!?!
