Extra weight, poorer response, oiling difficulty (requires an external pump instead of relying on gravity), expensive shit hanging right off the road. It's only real advantages are that it will fit on a car with no room in the engine bay, and you can use your NA headers, which makes the upgrade cheaper.

with the right set up you wont see any lag, just like any other turbo set up. some of the cars i've seen dont even need an intercooler since the charge pipes cool the air before it gets back to the front.

It's also a great way to cheat, you can lift the hood, and if the person doesn't know what to look for, they'll never know the car is turbo charged.

It is a good way to get more power and was designed for cars that had cramped engine compartments and has grown to lots of applications. If the system is matched it would not have lag and would perform well.

The point is, it will be laggier than and not perform as well as a similar turbo setup located in the engine bay. They aren't god-awful wastes of money like they are sometimes made out to be, but the disadvantages are very real.
