VIDEO: GM Releases 2009 Corvette ZR1's 7:26.4 Nurburgring Lap
I'm pretty sure previous Vetts used a T56 tranny which, if built the same as the Viper T56 then 5th is the gear used for top speed. 6th is a cruise gear.
Anybody know about the ZR1 tranny?

The Corvette ZR1's LS9 engine is backed by a Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual transmission, with a twin-disc clutch system. It is based on the new-for-2008 TR6060 six-speed, but upgraded to handle the LS9's torque output and delivers improved shift quality.
In order to achieve the anticipated top speed of 200mph, the gear ratios had to be juggled a bit. First gear was made taller at 2.29:1 versus a 2.66 in the Z06 to allow it reach 60 mph in first gear despite the LS9's 500 rpm lower redline of 6500 rpm. All of the first four gears are a bit taller and more closely spaced than the Z06 (and other Corvette manual transmissions) however, the fifth and sixth gears are shorter allowing for top speed to be achieved in sixth gear, rather than fifth in other models.

The past Z06's reached top speed in 5th and died off in 6th. Last I heard the new ZR1 will use 6th to achieve top speed.

Yeah it was pretty good. Only bad part is at the end when one of them rolled of the production line to be tested, that host took it and pussy footed it around the track. When he got out he was ecstatic, but he never got the thing above 75mph. Kind of a let down, I wanted to see that thing rip.
