Nissan testing shortened 350Z?

http://news.windingroad.com/body-sty...le-sports-car/

Oooh! Smaller 350Z = rebirth of the 240sx. Period. I didn't think that Nissan would spend the time to shorten the FM platform to make only one car (they get so many from the existing FM and FM2). Atleast now we know what fanboy cheap-ass drifter cars will look like in the year 2020... :nerd: Discuss.

still, aint nothing wrong with having another RWD platform to choose from

i might as well just buy a 350z.

I would drive something that looks like the new Altima coupe if it was RWD. I would have figured by now they would have a small RWD offering, if in anything maybe even a topless model to compete with miatas and the GM duo. i always thought once all these cars reached higher 2xx hp numbers towards 300 they would have to be rwd, but with all the techy traction control and whatnot, they dont have to i guess.

it would have to offer something under $25K with ~200-260hp to really smash it though. or at least similar performance numbers to the altima, but not too high so it doesn't eat into Z sales.

i dont think it would look like a Z though, theyre just using the chassis for testing. I'm sure it would have a whole new look, and by that, i mean it will look like every other nissan, but still have its own look (since they all have the same look these days). if they could incorporate some of the S15 look into it, it would definitely be nice. something small and mean.

and im sure nissan isnt in the dark about the popularity of the S chassis now. I'm willing to bet the S chassis craze/drift crap has inspired them to at least consider this option again.

who said sports cars were dying?

The Spectacle 06-13-2007 08:10 AM

S chassis are the 200sx(?) and 240sx, most commonly the early 240sx are s13 chassie's and the last version sold in the US is an S14 chassie. of course the S15 (front end of the car in my sig) was never sold in the US and S chassie production ended there. I think it was the old 200sx that was the S12 by the way.

I new RWD car is always welcome in my book

Nissan has done away with the QR..there is a VQ25 I-4 in the new SE-Rs

silvia tech 06-13-2007 04:10 PM

Actually, the 2007 base model sentra has the MR20DE motor in it same as the versa. The motor has lengthened conrods and an offset crank to help response, fuel economy, and stress of the internal components. The SER and SER specV have the QR25DE motor in them with a different set of rings. Nissan North America will not get rid of the QR25DE motor. 2 years ago they switched piston ring manufacturers. Long story short the new manufacturer failed to mention in their way of producing said rings the gap is different and the bore needed to be changed. As you know Nissan has lost Billions in the replacement of these motors due to oil consumption. The new QR's are not as bad as previous models. The only changeup in the production line for motors in 2007-2008 is the new twin intake VQ motor in the 350, 2008 pathfinder possibly frontier will have the V8 Titan motor in them and wilol carry a heavier pricetag respectively. As of now there is no talk of a mid-small car with a RWD configuration. Nissan is attempting to further push sales in the crossover area with the release of the Rogue which will have intelligent cruise control, aim adjust headlights and other intruiging features.
