Default Best way to clean engine bay

ok.. I need to clean my engine bay. Can I clean it with simple green and water? and then just air dry everything off with an air hose?

Also, what about the battery terminals?

batt terminals you just mix a glass of water and a few tablespoons of baking soda until it turns rather cloudy, just pour a little on top of the terminals, should start bubbling it away, then pour some more after its bubbled a lot to keep washing it away, repeat as necessary until clean.

Get degreaser specially made for car engine bays and read the instructions. Try not to cheap out and get something environmentally friendly. Make sure to try to cover the alternator and battery as best as you can with plastic bags or something. If it does get wet, dont worry about it, just dry it off with a towel and maybe a hairdryer or something and dont turn on the car for a while.

good luck and have fun, i want to do this again someday soon too.

I was told you were supposed to do this while the car was running.. but then I got to thinking why would you want to wet a piece of metal that is hot....

Engine De greaser and a hose is what I use. Then air dry with or without a air hose. I dont even cover anything up with a bag to protect it. I just don't drive my car for a while and try to avoid the electrical. Works great.

And I second the idea on not to get the environment friendly stuff as it is not nearly as strong.
Good Luck
