How to clean carbon fiber?

I was wondering the best way to clean carbon fiber hoods.

Is it cleared?

Walter 09-15-2006 01:42 AM

wash it

elwrestler03 09-15-2006 02:00 AM

ya its cleared

PrimoGen 09-15-2006 07:21 AM

is it clear coat (automotive) or does it have the standard marine style gel coating? Cleaning and more importantly repairing (buffing)/detailing the two are completely different.

mild soap and water, same thing you wash the rest of the car with

Well it has some sun damage and it a little faded I buffed it once and it shined right up but I dont know if thats the best way to clean it. I heard that was bad for it.

If it has faded you should sand it with some 400 grit and re-clear it, Thats what i did and it looked brand new.

You don't need to re-clear it,if it's oxidied,a good wet sand and compound will make it new again.

Ya I was thinking about that because I read that you can do that with the tail lights with 2000 grit and was wondering if it would work for my hood but is 400 grit to rough? And then I use a buffer and buff it?
