Exclamation 235/40/17

Is this a odd size tire?

I want to run these on the back of my car for the staggered look.
205/40/17 in the front

with a 235/40/17 in the back with more of a positive offset in the back.
I know I have to roll the fender lip,Which is no problem.

I did some research and they said the widest tire should be a 235/50/15 but going to 17,and dropping to a 40 series should compensate.

I want to run a wider tire in the back, and the 235/40/17 is only 1 inch taller than the 205/40/17

Does this all sound ok?

A few things will be affected going to a taller tire. Gearing for one.

Are you talking track or dragstrip? You might have some push in high speed turns.

If it is for an FC a 255 40 17 will fit without rubbing if you have the correct offset and wide enough rim.

I went to tirerack.com
Looked for a tire I want, and did a 235/40/ search and most of them had that size.I first did a search for 225/40/17 and couldnt find shit

Its a little more pricey than a 205 40 17,but I think that tire it to small for the back of the car.I never heard of a 235/40 I might go to a local tire distribitor before I buy it so i can see how they look.

I have both 255s and 275s on 9 inch wheels with 40mm offset and both fit fine without rubbing. A 255 will fit on a 8 inch wide rim just fine also but any narrower and you will actually lose some contact patch. RX7 Club has a few threads on tire fittment that may help your search also.

Wow, yeah.. Surprised they make tires in that size.. very odd.. I'm going to run 235/45/17 front and 275/40/17 rear on 7.5" and 9" wheels, respectively, so plenty big tires will fit on fairly thin wheels.

Now I just gotta burn up these weakling tires I have (225/45/17 and 245/40/17).

Good info,Yeah. They will be on 40+ offset. But not on a FC FB

I think 235 is the max id go.

Do you have any pics to show how wide,or the profile of the tire?

You got to check out tirerack,I have bought 6 tires from them, and they just dont sell tires, they show alot of specs on it.

I compared the 205/40/17 to the 235/40/17 and its only 1inch taller,Not to bad,I didnt check on width, which I need to do.
