Question Big Block or Small Block????

What makes an engine a big block. I see Chevrolet making these 6 and 7 liter V8s and they are being called smallblocks. The 2006 Vette has a 7 liter and it was advertised as the largest displacement small-block chevrolet has ever made. What's the deal???

The difference between a SBC and BBC are the general dimensions of the block and crank that make up these two engine families. The two engine designs are very similar with the exception that one is about 10% larger than the other.

It is true that there is an LS-6 which is similar to the LS-1 small block but has more displacement. As far as 7 liters goes thats big block territory.

The LsX series GenIII small blocks are really sort of in between the exterior dimensions of the traditional SBC and the BBC. The Ls1 will accept a 4" crank really easy for 382 CI or if you go with an LQ4/9 block you get 402 with a 4" stroke. The LsX motors bigger than that are resleved blocks with cylinder bores of 4.1" or more. A BBC motor will be huge, the valve covers will be almost wider than your hand and you will know it when you see it.

ahhh... so bigblocks don't have any torque and small blocks don't have any torque... wait... i'm still confused.
