I have heard about this before on auto-x events and have heard of people losing their warranties on new cars but it looks like the insurance companies are starting to watch drag strips too !
Here is a link to a guys story:

Bottom line, take off or cover your tag at any tyoe of track you go to.
Just a little FYI for you guys / gals so be careful.

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.

Hmmmmm.... I call BS.
Some agencies require you to sign a document stating that you WILL NOT use the vehicle on the track. If you signed this, and you goto the track, yes, you are screwed.
BUT, the MAJORITY of polices simply read that you are not covered WHILE the car is on the track.
Most Ins companies (especially claims) will try to pull some "your not covered becuase you took it to the track 2 years ago"...but in all fairness....they can't. This is when you READ YOUR POLICY, and maybe even visit the STATE INSURANCE COMMISIONERS office.

I'll have to take a look at my policy to see if anything like this is mentioned. I should probably just slap two strips of duct tape over the tag and a strip over the vin in the dash when I'm at the track.

Seems some of you are not reading this properly. A big "no shit sherlock" goes out to those of you that think your covered at the track because of course you are not and the same "no shit" goes out to you that though some of us were thinking we were actually covered at the track. Duhhhhh.
The issue here is insurance companies finding out the car has been to the track and not renewing you. Call the insurance commissioner all you want, they can choose not to renew you for any reason they deem.
So I would not be suprised if some companies actually started monitoring tracks like the kid inthis thread is saying.

That is exactly what happened. I posted this same thing at RX. Someone see/ told on him being at the track. He did NOT wreck. The Ins company has a pic of him racing, the release form with his signature and his tag number and they dropped him for taking his car to the track. It might not be right, but it did happen.
