Certain 2003 and 2004 Model Year Mustang Cobra Vehicles Accelerator Pedal Shield Installation

Ford Motor Company
P.O. Box 1904
Dearborn, Michigan 48121

April 5, 2006

TO: All U.S. Ford and Lincoln Mercury Dealers

SUBJECT: Awareness Communication: Upcoming Safety Recall 06S43
Certain 2003 and 2004 Model Year Mustang Cobra Vehicles
Accelerator Pedal Shield Installation

REASON FOR THIS COMMUNICATION

To inform you that Ford Motor Company is notifying the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of an upcoming safety recall on the affected vehicles. Parts are not currently available to complete the required repair. Once NHTSA has been informed, there is a possibility that you may be contacted by customers about the recall. This notice will help you answer customer questions.

REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL

The rear surface of the accelerator pedal may come into contact with floor carpeting during heavy throttle application. For those vehicles where the floor carpeting does not fit flush with the sheet metal, the unique rear surface profile of the Mustang Cobra accelerator pedal may catch in the carpet cutout behind the accelerator pedal. This could interfere with the pedal's ability to return to an idle position. As a result, some customers may experience unexpected continued throttle application and/or increased stopping distances.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

Certain 2003 and 2004 model year Mustang Cobra vehicles built at the Dearborn Assembly Plant from March 19, 2002 through April 1, 2004.

SERVICE ACTION

It is anticipated that the complete dealer bulletin announcing this upcoming action will be provided to dealers in mid-April 2006, once parts to repair this condition are available.

CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION

Owners of affected vehicles will not be notified until after dealers have received service repair and parts ordering information. It is anticipated that customer notification will begin in late-April 2006.

OASIS AND FSA VIN LISTS

OASIS and FSA VIN lists will be activated once the full dealer bulletin has been posted.

At least the shift forks and control arms are okay, this time.

What I think sucks is that Ford knows there is a problem, But lets not tell anyone until we can handle the repairs??? What is that all about, fuck it if they wreck their $28000 car, Shouldn't have been under "heavy throttle application" anyway. Come on and at least tell people.
