Ranger Help
my 96 ranger splash has this problem with the fuel pump
every morning i start it and runs fine but after it warms up and i turn it off, i turn the key and te pump makes a noise which ois that its working but makes a half spin and my truck starts and turns off then i have to either wait an hour and try again or get starting fluid and spray my intake till it start and it runs with a miss until i floor it on the road. could this be my fuel pump or my injectors? or if its my pump i was thinking of running a switch separately directly from the battery to my switch to pump. would this be safe to do?? any help would be great thanks |
When is the last time you serviced the fuel filter? With it starting and stays running after starting fluid, I'd start with the filter. A clogged filter will cause a good pump to overheat, or restict fuel pressure in general. HTH

ok i will replace it and ill come back if it continues to give me problems
thanks :) |
so i replaced my fuel filter today and still does the same thing.
checked it with the computer on autozone and only things that picked up was the cam positioner sensor, MAF (which was messed up because of that problem), and egr valve. i know MAF sensor doesnt have anything to do woith this problem beacause it did the same thing when the MAF was working properly so is it the cam positioner sensor, injectors, or my fuel pump or what??? need some serious help here please thanks |
Just for checking stuff (temporary) I use an old oil pressure gauge with a short rubber hose attached to check fuel pressure. Remove the Shreader valve and attach the hose with a clamp to the rail to test pressure. Its good enough to trouble shoot, just dont drive around with it attached. That will give you an idea if its the pump or not. G/L

3.0?

yea 3.0

I would replace the cam sensor. Mine went out on my old one and I think the crank sensor on my '04 went bad too. Testy motors, one lil sensor goes bad they go all PMS on you.
|
Honestly, troubleshoot it and dont guess. That can get expensive
|
honestly i wish motors were like the old days, all wires were for the ignition and lights
i think i have it figured out tho, i took it to my friends house and hooked up his computer and this time it said the pump has low voltage so gotta check that out and replace my cam positioner sensor anyways thank you guys for the help i really apreciate it :) |
