where to get stock pistons fly cut ?
I've done my 4.6 pistons by hand as well. Using the stock heads as a template, I notched 1 intake and 1 exhaust valve with a dremel cutting disc on the crowns all the way around so they have teeth on them. Cut up 2 screw drivers and welded them to the valve stems. Insert through head, mount electric drill,.. spin a little. Measure and repeat until you get the desired depth. Use dremel again for a little beveling of the notches. Viola.
And the screwed up thing is that I never used anything but stock PI cams. I never got around to putting aftermarket cams in the damn thing,..
Unfortunately I cant offer any kind of guarantee. Your best bet would be to see John (Tiffany) at All American and get him to notch them for you.

yeah, machine shop is out of the question. trying to get by cheap, car needs too much other work. i was putting together a 351w but ran out of money and patience so im just going to run the heads on the stock 302 with whatever cam i decide on. im just looking for someone thats capable of doing them by hand.
hurst,i dont need a guarantee. just dont mess anything up

Kind of an oxymoron there,.. LOL
I honestly dont have the experience. The only set I ever did was my own. I paid $100 for the heads and my short block had 136k on it. I took a risk and no harm was done.
The thing is on 4.6 pistons you grind out on the crown of the piston. The valves dont hit inside the dish. They hit on the outside crown because the bore is so small. If I did yours I'd be experimenting all over again. I dont think you want that. Let someone with a little more experience handle it.

If you're running 351w heads on a 302, you don't need to fly cut the pistons. The valves are almost all the same. (except for I think 1970 heads, but I could be wrong on the specific year. Hurst?)
I see no real reason why you would need to fly cut the pistons.
^ Even with 2.02 heads, you won't need to fly cut with a stock cam. And if they're 1.90 heads or 1.94 heads, no issues. The only time there would be an issue, would be if he's running a huge cam that he'll likely never see the full potential of on the street.
HOWEVER, he DID say "with whatever cam I decide on".
Soooo.....
