Default Deck Height(s)

I know that there are several different deck heights when dealing with blocks, IE: 9.2, 9.5...

What exactly is this a measurement of/from? What is the significance of it? What is the advantage from one to the next?

O I C...

What differences are there in the 351 that make there be a .3" difference in casting? Different years?

Cleveland block is 9.2, windsor block is 9.5. The '69 and '70 351 blocks are actually 9.450

haha...beat me to it.

That's all w/o getting to the aftermarket blocks where you can get a 9.5 deck with Cleveland journals. Doesn't matter tho, none of it fits under a stock hood anyway. even with drop mounts

$hawn, that was where I was headed - what are some of the disadvantages/advantages -- Like I never would've thought that it would effect the hood closing... Any others?!
