Default Weekend project (pics inside)

Craig and I ditched my rebuilt 4180 for a Holley 570 Street Avenger (HUGE thanks to Craig...couldn't have done it without you). A new Carter fuel pump was installed and a new coil was relocated to the passenger strut tower.

If you look closely at the old carb you can see fuel accumulated on the heat shield. Fuel was leaking out of the screws securing the bowl to the body of the carb. It was also leaking from the hand tightened fuel feed line. Not impressive considering this is a 3-year old rebuild done by a company who is supposed to be one of the best for the 4180:

New:

I also got bored on Sunday and decided to make the air cleaner look as spiffy as the new carb it covered. The plan was to restore it back to new. Unfortunately the cover was in bad shape. I was able to strip most of all the dirt/grease/etc off, however it will never polish up back to the machined finish it once had. Decided to paint it for now with plans on securing a nice polished one later down the road:

Stripped:

Repainted:

Cover needs to be redone thanks to the rain shower during the 2nd coat.

Nice new carb, too bad it got all covered up by the air-cleaner.

Dude, I can bring that cover back.

It looks much better under that hood already. A few more hours with some elbow grease and getting those awesome valve covers clean will do wonders.

That will have to wait until the wiring gets sorted out. I was jumping that connector for the WOT A/C cutoff and the insulation to the wiring was literally crumbling in my hands. I can assume that nothing under that hood is ready for any sort of moisture just yet.

I love the look of the stock dual snorkle aircleaner. There was an article a long time ago in either MM&FF or 5.0 that compared this aircleaner w/a drop-in K&N against your typical open element air filter. It made more power and the air temp was quite a bit lower. I'll never get a cowl induction hood for this car, so the stock aircleaner is the only way to fly.
