Default weld on head

I have a bolt that snapped off on the head of ther motor while I was taking the intake manifold off... But it appears that the previous engine builder welded around the bolt..

Is this normal procedure... I am going to take it on the mill and face it (make it flat , and then counter bore it and then drill and tap..

pictures to come..

i wouldnt freak if its for an intake bolt BUT when they mill it that weld might come out. If its a stock head just replace it they are a dome a dozen. Im sure almost everyone here has a stock head of 2 laying around lol. Hell i have 2 off a dump ass motor. Where are u located >?

Sounds like it might have been miss threaded, He couldnt get it all the way in so he welded around it, or he cracked it somewhere around the hole?...redneck either way

the only thing it is my g/fs car and her dad told me to do the machine work on the head... and I don't know engine work but I know machine work and the rocker arms and everything are set...

I can fix it I am just afraid that the weld is covering something up..

I will just take the weld off... I will make it smooth again...flush with the surface and then take an end mill and counter sink it and then drill and tap..
