Switch from blow through to draw through?
Switch from blow through to draw through?
A guy PM-ed me over at SVTPerformance asking about my Lightning MAF. We started talking and he said he was going with a draw through setup on his D1 blower. I thought this was a no-no since the metered air would read at a different temp then what was actually getting into the intake and that the rule of thumb was to have the MAF as close to the throttlebody as possible. He showed me some existing setups people were running and I have to admit that they seemed viable.
So am I off base here?
What would be the pros and cons as you see it?

It would require some tuning to get it to run right. Personally, if it aint broke, don't fix it.
I prefer blow-thru because on a compressor (such as a blower or turbo), the efficiency of that compressor is directly related to how easily it can ingest air. If you put the MAF in front of the compressor, its going to have to work harder. That is why power pipe's pick up so much HP.

Well, my MAF was designed for a draw-through setup (Lightning) so I was curious what benefit it would have to switch. My car needs a retune anyway but I don't think I'll switching my setup around. Like I said, just curious.

Supposedly the Pro-M blow-thru retune consisted of adjusting the curve to match your now changed intake piping. That would imply the curve vs. air temp remains the same. If there is a slight difference due to air temp, I'm sure you can adjust with fuel pressure.
Like I said, in an ideal world, blow-thru is better because it lets the compressor work easier, but is it worth it to cut up all your plumbing (which I'm guessing is really nice like the rest of your car) and re-do everything just for a potential headache?

I'd have to agree there. Sure would hate to make things worse for myself.
Thanks!
Thanks!
