I posted a earlier question about what lower intake manifold to go wiht for my 351W. The intake i went with is the Edelbrock RPM Air-Gap. I got it a few days ago and i want to install it myself tomarrow. The entire motor has been built by Sam at Coastal Dyno so i am hesitant to install it myself. I am being told it is real easy since A:the Motor is not in the truck B:it's carburated. My questions is can i get a crash course instruction on how? I know Get the gasket and some RTV silicone for the front and rear seal and torque bolts in star pattern to about 22lbs. Thats all i know, Anything i am leaving out?

I forgot to add that i have no clue what gasket set i should go with. Any suggestions on that to?

 

Any chance you could have Sam @ coastal do it? I say that only because he built the motor. It isn't that hard to install it. Just have to make sure you criss-cross torque the bolts for even seating. Its a "wet" intake, if you mess up you could get water in the oil pan from an unsealed water jacket. I normally use a set of Fel-Pro Gaskets and some Sealant around the water jackets in the intake to make sure they seal. But everyone has their own way of doing it.

 

Tried Contacting Sam a couple times and no answer no call back... So i am going to try and tuff this one out. I have a friend helping that has installed quite a few of them but i am still kinda sketchy. I was going to get the Felpro Performance set.

make sure you put a nice glob of sealant on the front and rear corners were the gaskets meet.

 

Yeah i was told to use the RTV sealant for front and back seals, Around the water jackets aswell.

 

use a 1/4 or bigger bead of rtv or they'll leak, new Cheese whiz can of rtv makes it easier. worth the money.$11 at autozone last I saw.

 

The standard Fel-pro gaskets that came with my rebuild kit were the right size for my RPM Air-Gap.

 

A)I would scuff up the block and intake front and back where you would put rtv...2nd use the coll blue stuff for water pumps ect....after that I would use 1-4 thick like stated.

B)If you dont want to use rtv I would go to discount auto and they have the rubber gaskets for the front and back holds better then the cork..and I would put a little rtv on them ect. scuff both surfaces once again.
