Default Engines Engines Engines...

I have lots of choices here, and am not sure what I should consider doing.
I am not about to post in the General area because all I will get replys from is deh ricers so listen up
My car is going to need a engine soon, it has 300,000 miles on it, at least thats how it drives. It's real tired.
Heres what I'm considering...

Taking apart the current engine and rebuilding it, getting headwork done, new internals, boring out the block etc. Make it run like new for a small price tag

Get my hands on a 345 HP crate motor from ford for about 3,000 preassembled.

Now im not considering a 351 because I'm 17 and I dont really need that much power - I think 345 HP is more than enough for someone my age who hasnt driven a quick car before. Plus i dont want to have to upgrade the drivetrain and such because its going to take me long enough to save up for the motor alone. (Just started my new job a few weeks ago)

Post your opinions

I like the 345 HP crate motor idea...everything is new and done right.

You can handle closer to 400, you know? Heads/Cam/Intake and a few other misc goodies here and there will suit you fine, don't need to spray it, stroke it, blow it, suck it, fuck it, whatever. Thats what I'm doing for mine, anyways.

But if you don't need massive power, I say go for a 4-cylinder SVO setup. Those things are the awsome with today's gas prices.

+1

If you're new to building engines, *rebuilds* can get real expensive in a hurry If done correctly!
A 345 hp new engine for 3k sounds about right. Just be sure that the 345 isn't with a vic. JR., 800 cfm Holley DP, and spinning 7500 rpms.

Im all for the 351w. D.S.S makes nice motors for a decent price if your going the pre-assembled route. Pick up a 5.0 magazine and there are alot of companies in there that sell crate motors. Ford sells them....... but they are overpriced IMO.
