My brother and I have gone to the Gators for the past 12 years and we always take at least one newbie with us. If you are the newbie you have to get introduced to nitro methane (fuel for top fuel cars) while in the pits, front and center.

If you have never smelled this stuff while the car is running it is nasty ! It makes your eyes and nose water like hell and your sinus burn like you have been set on fire. But it is part of the experience and as you will see in the pics. many people try and hang in while the car is runing but usually bail out holding their eyes.

 

He made it for a while.

The yellowish haze you see is the nitro and you can smell it from a long way away. Amazingly some people can hang in there while it is running while most of the crew members wear full blown gas masks.

The sound is also unbelievable.

 

I wish you had gotten that on video! mark was telling me about at bennigans. I can still smell the nitro from saturday. I tried holding my breath as long as I could to get some shots of it running, my eyes couldnt take but a few seconds I had to run. The shitty thing was the direction I ran too another car started right up.
