Vortech Questions.. Finally got it running

I have yet to install the adjustable FPR and with the 42s, its running a bit rich at idle and likes to surge :( Ill install that tomorrow and drop the FP a little to try to fix it.

Anyways, I have a very restrictive intake between the mass air and the blower inlet, so I think thats holding it back a little. The pulleys should be good for 14lbs and Im only seeing 10-11ish. I have some questions though:

1 - 1st and second gear dont seem to get much above 5-6lbs and generally, 2nd doesnt pull like I thought it would. 3rd and 4th simply haul ass.

2 - at the top of 3rd and 4th around 11lbs, right before I let off, it seems to pull extra hard all of a sudden - eh?

3 - after a hard run, during deceleration, it sometimes stalls for a second and the CEL comes on.. it will then restart. Seems like its loading up and stalling??

All in all - its added a ton of power. It drives like stock except for the surging.

My advice would be to spend 100 bucks and get an hour of dyno time so you can dial it in. :)

Congrats on the setup, must be a lot of fun. :)

+1 on getting it tuned, are the 42's in now?Do you have heads and a cam?If not I would think the 42's would be too much injector?I would definetly do the FRP back out some fuel, then go from there. The dyno is the best answer though bro.

Well the engine is otherwise stock. Ill tell you, the 42s do the trick at wot, but I know that idle and driveability is almost always the issue when going with large injectors.

I appreciate the suggestions for Coastal - I will get there eventually..but..

Does anyone that has owned a vortech have any comments about the above questions?

You're still running an FMU arent you?

Stangonline 09-09-2004 06:37 PM

nope. Its common to go with larger injectors as opposed to an FMU. Gives you a pig rich idle in most cases, but its easier to tune.

Well you usualky dont see as much boost in lower gears as you do in higher gears cause the higher gears do put more of load on the motor.

And usually when you have a more restrtiice intake, you will see more boost
