valve springs..they still okay?

i just my e7s ported and the guy that did them told me not to rev the piss out of my car because the stock valve springs will not hold up. He told me not to bring the car anywhere near redline, so will like 5-5.5k be alright on these spring..or will they blow?

Mars_302 07-19-2004 08:03 PM

What cam or what are the cam specs? 5.5k should be fine for something like an e303 of f303 cam. A spring kit isnt that much. I believe TFS has a upgrade kit for like $120 that has springs good to .550 lift

Drewpw4ng 07-19-2004 10:19 PM

stock cam for now.. broke..i was planning on switchin out the spring when i get enough money for a E303..so with the stock lift i should be fine going to 5.5k?

You are fine to the rev limiter probalby on a stock cam. Depends on age and before use too. but yea 5.5 is fine. Id save up for springs though man. Those are kinda a pain to do on the car

stock, high mileage springs can float before 5.5k It all depends on the condition. Im with Mars - save up some $ and do them before you put the heads on.

Ive been told that if you can feel them floating (you should be able to tell) - deduct 500rpm, and THAT is where they are actually starting to float.

i got the car put back together..just waiting for new headers to come by fedex today hopefully. Ill just save up for new springs and a cam at do em at the same time...the stock springs got reconditioned in a machine so i think they should be fine

Can springs be reconditioned?

Did not know that.

Willis 07-20-2004 11:19 AM

You can test them to make sure the springs tension is still within spec though ...
