Over the past month, my car has had a mystery oil leak. I immediately ruled out a valve cover leak since I had changed the gasket a month prior to the leak starting.

The oil was actually on my timing belt and cam gears, causing the oil to spray various portions of my engine compartment. Again, I ruled out possible cam seal failure since I replaced those probably 5-6 months ago when I installed the new cams. So I feared the worse, thinking it could possibly be something giving out in the bottom end of the motor.

The car spends the entire day at Ernie Haire. It ends up it was a damn leaking valve cover. Since I was engrossed in a meeting at work, I missed the call from my service advisor and in the interest of time, they started the repair without speaking to me first. So now I'm out $125 for something I could have fixed for free.

If it were any other shop I'd raise hell, but I have been seeing this same service advisor since I was 16 (over 7 years). He has really helped me out in the past, so I'm not going to raise a stink about this.
