A swap question...or three...or more.

Ok guys,
Some of you already know that I broke my wife's 94 V-6 by running it hot....either cracked the block, or blew a gasket. Either way, I'm replacing the motor.

My question is what all do I need to swap in a 302 of the same year?

New computer?

Different trans? (currently has an automatic. 5 sp is not an option)

Is it NECISSARY to change the front springs?

A lil help is much appreciated.

I KNOW I'll need exhaust, but thats cheap in the long run.;)

You'll need the following and depending on the engine source will depend on other factors as well.

5.0 K-member,
AOD for fox based motor or AODE for 94 - 95 or Explorer motor.

If the engine is sourced from a fox then you'll need the EEC4 engine harness and adapter. If from an Explorer and using an AODE will need a matching computer for the Automatic. The V6 computer will not work.

Do not HAVE to change out the springs. At most may feel a little softer in the front with the V8 and stock springs.

May need a different tranny cross member,.. I am not 100% on this type of swap. I know what it takes to put in a 4.6. So doing a 5.0 probably isnt much different.

If the car was an automatic then the stock shifter can be reused. Depending on which tranny you use,.. will need a matching drive shaft.

Complete exhaust of course.

Your biggest head ache will be getting the wiring for the engine sensors worked out. May end up getting a V8 gauge cluster to get it working right.

Thanks Hurst!

Anyone else? I'm looking at a 302 out of a 94 mustang....Don't know if they have the computer still though....About how much is a K-member for a V-8 car?

The car I have is an automatic.

You can use a fox V8 k-member,.. it will bolt up. 8 bolts hold it up. But will need to swap your lower control arms over. SN95 and Fox are slightly different. Shouldnt be too expensive. Check some of the salvage yards for 85 - 94 V8 mustangs with k-members. The stock V6 radiator 'should' suffice for a stock 5.0 motor. But may consider a larger radiator if you run into over heating problems. Check around with some of the forums or cragslist etc, to see if anyone has any parts cars they are parting out.

Shouldnt be more then $50 for a stock k-member. I personally wouldnt pay more then $75.

I didnt know that.

I know on the 4.6 they are different from the V6 cars as well as the 5.0.

Good to know that the 5.0 and V6 share the same k-member.

That should simplify things.

Swapped my vert from v-6 to 5.0. K-member the same.
As far as a motor the one gnracer2 has, is a deal. I bought the complete k-member and rear from that car. Its as complete as your gonna get. He knows the history on the car, it was a friends car that was totalled and bought back from insurance company then parted. Women drivers :D

Thanks guys!

So, the K-member is NOT needed for replacement....So I just need the following:

v-8 motor with mounts
AODE for V-8 ??? or are they the same as the ones in a V-6?
computer for a V-8
V-8 exhaust
driveshaft if trans needs changed

Am I missing anything?

Wiring harness under the hood?
