Donald Campbell set a new World Land Speed Record of 403.10mph (648.73kph) in this car on 17 July 1964 at Lake Eyre, South Australia. The tail fin was a late addition, after a disastrous crash at Bonneville, Utah in 1960. This car was chosen by Louisa Braithwaite (Moving Image Conservator at Beaulieu) as her favourite vehicle on display in the National Motor Museum. Louisa in the video explains why she chose this vehicle, which has become one of the 100 fascinating museum objects featured on the Heritage100 website. The Heritage100 website highlights interesting and quirky items from museum and archive collections across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

I saw the actual car at Daytona USA long ago before they decided to take apart the museum.

They still display the winning Daytona 500 car every year for one year if you take the track tour,

and then I suspect the last years car is moved to the NASCAR museum in Charlotte NC.
---------------------

Inside the original Daytona USA, they also had a replica of Bill France's original gas station....

along with many other things.

If I knew Daytona USA would have been dismantled, I would have gone back several times and taken a ton of pictures.
------------------------

I know where the REAL gas station of Bill France is located....and the Streamline Hotel where NASCAR was formed,

and a bunch of other places that very few people still recall.

The Living Legends of Auto Racing Museum is definitely a place I visit every year:

While I will live forever, those guys running the museum are slowly fading away.

Take a look here:

There is a car show at the famous Drive In Church every year during the week before the Daytona 500:
https://www.tamparacing.com/forums/e...ng-museum.html

There are a bunch of OTHER events all week long the week of the Daytona 500.
You should look into some of those activities.
