James Goad Set To Bring Back Reaper SS Camaro

By Brian Wagner August 15, 2018James Goad has decided to get the band back together and bring his infamous “Reaper SS” Camaro back to the streets. However, this time the star of Discovery Channel’s hit show Street Outlaws has made some changes to the car and is pairing it up with his other Camaro known as “Deez Nuts”. Goad plans on bringing both cars to the Street Outlaws $200,000-to-win event at Bristol with the goal of scoring the biggest payout in no-prep history. The Reaper SS was the original car that Goad made his appearance with on the list and used to race against the best in the 405. To step up his game, Goad brought out his second Camaro Deez Nuts, but the car soon came under fire due to its design. Seeing the writing on the wall, Goad made the decision to bring his old warhorse out of retirement to make a run at the track and streets.https://www.speednik.com/files/2018/...56-960x452.jpg“There was a lot of controversy about Deez Nuts and the fact I built that car to the rules at the time. The car had a carbon fiber body on it that was already mounted, so I confirmed that the rules stated it needed to have a full steel roof and quarters, then added those to the body. That created a lot of controversy, so I decided to pull Deez Nuts off the list and borrow Reaper from my little brother. He asked what I was going to do with the car, and I told him put it back on the street since it fit the rules better. He was fine with that because he was tired of seeing it sit,” Goad explains. The first incarnation of the Reaper had a big cubic-inch nitrous engine under the hood, but for this tour of duty Goad is changing things up. This time around Reaper will feature a 540 cubic-inch ProCharged powerplant that he purchased from Megalodon owner Brent Austin. The Reaper has also been outfitted with a new Davis Technologies Profiler to help it keep traction when all the boosted power comes in.

Besides bringing the Reaper Camaro back with a new engine and power-adder combination, Goad has added to his team some big names to assist him with dominating on the streets or track.

“We put the car together and called the Bruder brothers to help get the car lined out with the new setup. I wanted to have the combined minds of Travis Quillin and the Bruder brothers to help with the cars. The goal as a team is to make both cars as fast as possible. I also brought in Johnny “Drama” Maguda to do maintenance on both cars between rounds. I’ve got the people, knowledge, and equipment to go faster now. With the new setup in Reaper the car has gone 1.02 and 1.03 60-foots and run in the 2.70s to the 330 in no-prep trim,” Goad says. The plan for the reincarnated Reaper is to put it back out on the street to race while using Deez Nuts at the No Prep Kings events. Because both cars are very close in setup and use the same parts Goad will be bringing them both to all the No Prep Kings events to prevent any downtime due to parts breakage. Goad is also considering pressing the Reaper into service at some events with small tires.

“Both cars still use the same parts from Roadrunner Performance, Neal Chance Racing Converters, ATI Performance Products, Davis Technologies, TMS Titanium, Optic Armor, ProCharger, Chassis Engineering and Santhuff. That makes it easier for us to set each car up and swap parts if needed at the track. This will really keep our program moving along the rest of the year,” Goad explains.

The new 581 cubic-inch engine for Deez Nuts is ready to go.
After making dramatic changes to both cars Goad is set to make a push toward winning the No Prep Kings title and becoming a force on the streets of OKC. Fans are already clamoring over the Reaper Camaro coming back and they will get their fill of it, along with Deez Nuts starting at the $200,000-to-win event at Bristol this weekend.
