[h=2]IHRA signs seven tracks over six weeks[/h] IHRA








There has been a flurry of activity recently with seven race tracks entering sanctioning agreements with the International Hot Rod Association over the past six weeks.
Six of the seven agreements are multi-year deals with the tracks ranging from historic facilities to a pair still in the building phase.
Three iconic Indiana tracks — Bunker Hill Dragstrip, Muncie Dragway and US 41 Motorplex — all joined the IHRA family.
The list also includes Penwell Knights Raceway in West Texas, which features a new tower after the original one was destroyed in a May 2016 electrical fire. There is also Mooresville Dragway, located in the area where many of the NASCAR teams are based outside of Charlotte, N.C.
Two other facilities under construction, the Onawa Racing and Events Complex in Iowa and Xtreme Raceway Park in suburban Dallas, have also agreed to become IHRA member tracks.
A common theme has been the IHRA's commitment to the grassroots, Sportsman racer as seen through its involvement with ESPN3 and programs like the Summit SuperSeries.
"IHRA has such a great reputation working with the Sportsman racer," said Tim Ringer, co-owner of US 41 Motorplex. "The racers are the ones who really came to me and told me they wanted this. What they want is what we want to give them and we felt like IHRA had the best program. We're looking forward to the future."
