+Tyler Labriola Yeah Tyler, I did a double-take the moment I heard that "10 second" comment too about the Smothers Bros. car. I was in jr. high in '67-68 when this was happening, and was a kid that was a drag racing freak. Every dime went to Hot Rod, Rod and Custom, Popular Hot Rodding magazines back then. The Smother's Bros. Car (I think there were a couple of them being run at the same time - Old Cutlasses' / 442's, were in ALL the magazines back then. I too thought they were like a 13 second car, but maybe they eventually got into faster vehicles. Their cars did well overall, as I remember. I may be confusing their Oldsmobiles with actor James Garner's, who raced 442's in off road and I think....drag racing for awhile.

+YourUncleScroatie Wally wasn't running a 6cyl. there.... If memory serves me right, he had a L78 396 based car. I don't remember Wally ever running a 6cyl race car, unless he did so very very early in his career. Perhaps you're thinking of when he switched to AMC and ran Hornets and later possibly AMC Gremlins very successfully. But none of those were 6cyl. either, but 390 based, I believe. Geez....it's only been 45 years since I was all involved with this stuff. lol. And while I'm at it....God Bless 'ol George Hurst.....a promoter extraordinaire! That guy took the American Dream and using his moxie, his brain and his gonads....built up an empire with some of the best product promotions and overall company promoting this country may have ever seen. And Hurst Shifter's Miss Linda Vaughan.....she's STILL alive and well. I saw her at Scottsdale's Barrett-Jackson car auction last January. She's not a puppy anymore...none of us are. But she's kept herself in damn fine shape. What a Goddess to the sport of Drag Racing! She's given much to the sport, in many ways. A hard-working gal.
