I've never owned a Dodge Charger ever so this is my first and I've only put about 1,500 miles on it.

The filter is built into the pan, so you have to replace the entire pan, then the fluid from the dealer is expensive. If you paid the dealer to do it, I've seen people hit with $700 bill for that. I believe the owners manual states 100k before "recommended" change.

I'm running mine till 75k then doing it myself for my wifes 2015 SXT awd, and while I'm at it, doing the diff fluids too at that time.

Two different ways to do this based on what we have seen with the factory ZF fluids. Either change it at 30,000 miles by simply doing a pan drain and then refill and take the fluid out another 35,000-40,000 more miles and then change it at 70k miles with the filtran pan at that point pushing it to the limit of the filter.

Or just drive to 50,000 miles and change it along with the filtran at that time. The fluid comes out black and gritty at 50k miles and there is no way that I would recommend going 100,000 miles on this fluid!

If the vehicle is under warranty then we recommend an OEM Chrysler pan which we provide at 10% over cost and include the QuantumBlue ZF 8 Speed Replacement Racing ATF at $14.95 per quart and $119.60 for 2 gallons.

Remember that the 8HP70 filtran is $307.00 from the dealership as of today and their fluid is $33.50 to $43.25 per quart.

Here is more information on it but you really have two choices to protect this unit:

As far as the pans go, you HAVE to get the right flow characteristics and fluid volume right or you will cavitate the transmission......but hey, you bought an aftermarket pan for $60.00 less....and now you have a $4,000.00 bill to deal with but you saved initially......foolish. Get the correct pan.....and we provide it for all our customers!

Aftermarket vs. OEM

Aftermarket is on the left and the OEM is on the right.

Oh, and by the way, you can't reuse the bolts and the aftermarket doesn't come with any!

The aftermarket pan comes with the bolts.

The MOPAR filter is available online at Rockauto for an additional $60 if people would prefer that route. They also sell the OEM Mopar/ZF fluid for $25/qt. I'm simply providing additional alternatives.
