New to Dodge / ModificationsHello all, and as a preface please bear with me as I am new to this and some of my questions may seem ignorant. I recently purchased a 2018 SXT Plus. I like the vehicle a lot and I wanted to do some basic modifications to it. It seems that the ones most people go for are cold air intake and cat back exhaust. Most of the posts I found on these topics were pretty old, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to revisit it for some of you experts. I understand that some of you may think that working on a V6 is pointless but nevertheless I'd like to try. I was looking at the AIRAID 350-210 for the cai; as far as the exhaust goes, I have seen so many different opinions on this I don't know which direction to go in. Some say leave the stock pipes and replace the mufflers, some say replace the whole thing, etc. The opinions on the cai seem to be just as varied; some people say they don't do anything, some say the difference is huge. I'm hoping to clear some things up before I buy anything. Any opinions are appreciated and thank you for your time.

For the exhaust go SOLO Performance "J" pipe system or leave it alone, most aftermarket exhausts for the V6 drone horribly (okay, some really expensive Corsa and Borla systems are good too, but cost $$$).

For the CAI, either try the Hellcat lower airbox/ tube (factory parts) or an AFE Momentum GT...all the other systems let in way too much hot air (like that AirAid system) and actually decrease performance (My old Mopar CAI made the engine bog in hot weather). The crazy 4 foot long tube on the Momentum GT really ups the mid range power, and you can add the Hellcat air tube to it.

DON'T FORGET to upgrade the crappy BR3 brakes to at least BR5 specs if you don't have them already (if you have 20" wheels you likely have the BR5 brakes. If you have 18" wheels you get the super cheap BR3). You could go whole hog like I did and put on the magnificent BR9 Police brake package.

Thanks for this great info, I have been looking into this exhaust because I didnt even know it existed, the price is a bit better than the Borla / Magnaflow ones. As far as the brakes go, is there something wrong with them that Im not aware of? They seem to work fine. I have the 18" wheels so I guess those are the crappy brakes but Im not finding anything on these BR5 ones?

The BR3 work--once or twice-- then fade badly. I like to go fast and need to be able to stop more than once! The BR3 has tiny 12.6" vented front rotors with a single piston caliper. The rears are 12.6" solid (.4" thick) rotors. Once they get hot you're not going to stop...

BR5 is the standard on SXT Black Top/Rallye with 20" wheels and the regular R/T's: 13.6" vented front rotors with dual piston calipers, rears are 12.6" vented rotors...a much better brake system that is fine for everyday driving.

The BR9 Police brakes use massive 14.5" vented front rotors with huge two piston calipers, the rears are 13.8" vented rotors. This package has twice the braking power of the BR3 and I haven't been able to get them to fade at all.This setup has better braking power than the 4 piston Brembo package (nowhere close to the SRT 6 piston calipers though).

here are some good comparison pics of the rear rotors and the last is the BR9 front compared to the BR3. If you look closely at the little front rotor you can see discolored spots from overheating (it is called "cementite" because these spots turn super hard and if it keeps getting worse it renders the rotor useless):Attached Thumbnails

Power Stop sells a nice BR5 kit that you can get from RockAuto (Or Amazon, Summit racing, etc) I had these on my 2013 and they were great:

Most car weight is on the front. Unless you get extra points at a car show for updating
rear brakes, my efforts would go toward front discs and better brake PADS.

General rule:
If you can't lock up the brakes, put on better discs and pads so that you can lock them up.....
....and once you can lock them up, put on wider tires

BR9 Police Brake UpgradeI have been putting together the parts to upgrade my brakes to the 2014 Police specs (BR9 package). I already have the 13.8" Police Brakes on the rear, but only R/T spec (BR5) up front. So far I have received the rotors, calipers & carriers, and pads, but I'm still waiting on the backing plates and hydraulic hoses. The calipers and pads are a lot larger (and I have already painted the calipers red), but the rotors are ridiculous!

Parts list:

Rock Auto.com

Power Stop drilled slotted rotors: AR83092XPR $75 each/$150
Power Stop Z37 "Top Cop" pads: Z37-1767 $40
Left caliper/bracket: Cardone 18B5497 $85 (includes core charge) the calipers are made by Akebono and are all iron (heavy)
Right caliper/bracket: Cardone 18B5496 $85 (includes core charge)
Left Brake hose: Centric 15063102 $23 (Mopar part 68248467AA is back order & has ridiculous $180 shipping charge!)
